Other Polish Resources

Polish students are somewhat more fortunate than students of many other “less commonly taught” Eastern European languages, in that somewhat more quality resources are available. Some of the best are from Prof. Oscar Swan, and are available for free. These include his indispensable Polish online dictionary, and his Polish course, which I believe will make a wonderful accompaniment to my materials. While my lessons (as advertised) are centered on grammar and try to lay out the grammar in a methodical, step-by-step manner, Prof. Swan’s lessons are somewhat more communicative, and are built around dialogues and brief prose retellings of the dialogues — although he does include a lot of coverage of grammar as well. Any student who goes through these lessons should have a solid reading ability and a fairly extensive vocabulary. Finally, Prof. Swan also has a very detailed reference grammar that is freely accessible online… though this would obviously be useful for more advanced students.

Polish Pronunciation

While I introduce Polish pronunciation and spelling very carefully, I obviously have no audio, and am not a native speaker anyway! For these purposes, YouTube channels with native speakers are great. Here’s a good video to start with.
